For most volunteer organizations that rely entirely on the public for financial support, fund raising can become a burdensome and time consuming endeavor that directly competes with valuable training for the finite hours of volunteer support.
In recent years, a concerted effort was made by the officers of GSURU to minimize the time spent raising funds by concentrating and limiting our efforts to the following activities:
- In July, GSURU sponsors a Clam Bake. GSURU members work hard at this event and view it as not just a fund raiser but also as an opportunity to meet, and personally thank, the local community for their continued support.
- A coin toss in Milford, New Jersey on the last Saturday before Christmas.
- A coin toss in Milford, New Jersey on a Saturday in June.
- Once per year, typically in the fall, a fund drive letter is mailed to the surrounding communities.
- From time to time, a member of the public will donate equipment to GSURU. The equipment might be directly related to our water mission, such as a boat, a boat motor, scuba equipment or a jet ski, or indirectly, such as an automobile or truck. The equipment donated is evaluated and, if relevant, is pressed into service. If not required, the equipment is placed for sale, typically using an online broker such as Ebay or Craig's List.
